21st International Forum on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA 2017)
"Smart Systems Transforming the Automobile"
25-26 September 2017
Berlin (Germany)
The ambitious goals of climate protection, (energy) efficiency, air quality and road safety in combination with current trends in society and economy require restless innovation in sustainable and inclusive road transport solutions. Recent breakthroughs in electric and electronic components and systems, clean propulsion, automation, connectivity, IT-driven business models and user centric design promise viable opportunities for the automobile to meet those challenges.
However, it is foreseeable that additional principles will even further transform mobility in the next five to ten years: Big data analysis, e.g., is already crucial for automation and will further enable cities to better respond to traffic issues, the Internet of Things will improve connected driving and together with blockchain facilitate mobility-as-a-service, robots and artificial intelligence will make human drivers obsolete not only in passenger cars but potentially in all road vehicles, 3D printing will allow the production of novel vehicles but also change the demand for transport by making it possible to replace shipping products by shipping materials and local production, virtual and augmented reality may reduce the need to travel physically, and carbon fiber structures may make the automobile extremely lightweight and efficient. Moreover, maybe in ten to 15 years, even more technical revolutions will arise creating completely new opportunities from integration and synergetic combinations of these various technologies impacting the demand for road transport but also widening the possibilities for road vehicles.
The grand challenge will be to exploit these new technologies and at the same time adapt to changing demands on road transport. “Smart Systems Transforming the Automobile” will be at the heart of the answer to these partly disrupting changes. Thus, this will be the topic of this year’s 21st edition of the International Forum on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA). The forum’s ongoing mission has been to detect novel trends in automotive ICT, electronics and smart systems and to discuss the technological implications from early on, and will thus be continued also in this edition.
AMAA 2017 – Preliminary Program
Leading engineers and scholars from all around the world are cordially invited to participate in the dialogue addressing ongoing research and novel developments.
Key session of the AMAA 2017 are:
Opening Session - During this session decision makers on European and national policy level will share their position towards new mobility concept in general and automation and electrification in specific.
Transforming the Automobile - The mobility sector is currently in a transition phase. This session concentrates on novel developments transforming the automobile including inputs from beyond the transport sector.
Connected and Automated Driving - This session will compile a comprehensive presentation of the current achievements towards the development of a European roadmap for connected and automated driving within the SCOUT project.
Cloud-based functionalities - With mobility transforming towards more and more automation as well as more connectivity, this session will address the corresponding cloud-based functionalities.
Pilots for transformed road transportation - To promote the transformation of road transportation new functionalities and applications have to be implemented and tested on a large scale. This session will introduce relevant pilot activities and focus on implementation issues e.g. user acceptance as well as further required collaborations.
User centred aspects of automotive transport - Global socio-economic and environmental megatrends are posing new challenges and demands on transport in Europe. To answer these, cross-modal solutions tailored to the needs of users of passenger and freight transport are called for. Within this sessions novel technologies, concepts and solutions focusing on these issues will be presented.
Legal framework & impact of CAD - Limitations for the implementation of automated driving exist not only on technology level. Also legal considerations and issues on privacy and user acceptance have to be solved. This session will feature selected contributions to these topics.
ADAS & Sensors - Smart systems and components enable technologies transforming the automobile. Especially smart sensors will be needed to realize innovative systems for automated driving as well as other applications. Different sensor applications will be introduced within this section.
Testing of CAD & functional safety - The large-scale implementation of automated driving requires efficient testing methods and functional safety. Contributions within this session will discuss challenges as well as methodologies for testing and introduce smart sensors supporting functional safety.
